The new Toyota Urban which first took a bow during the 2008 Geneva Motor Show will be coming to the United Kingdom showrooms May of 2009.

Japanese manufacturer Toyota boast of the new Urban Cruiser as the 4×4 vehicle to achieve the lowest CO2 emission in the world. The new engine design paved the way for more power but at the same time making the vehicle more fuel efficient and less harmful to the environment. The CO2 emission is plotted at 130g/km for the 1.4 D-4D variant which is an all wheel drive vehicle.

The new Toyota Cruiser is designed on the Toyota Optimal Drive platform. The vehicle follows the engine built of its siblings, the Auris and Yaris, with the new Dual VVT-I 1.33 power plant. It is also equipped with a Stop and Start system.

The Start and Stop system turns off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop. The driver will put the gear to neutral and then release the clutch. The engine will automatically be back on once the driver steps on the clutch to select the gear.

The 1.4 D Diesel engine is exclusively released for the all-wheel drive. This power train is equipped with piezoelectric technology which contributes to a 130 g/km of CO2 emission. This is the lowest reading for an AWD vehicle anywhere in the world.

The piezoekectric fuel injection system allows for the more efficient supply of fuel via multiple injections which makes the car more fuel efficient and environment friendly. This engine still delivers the much needed power at 89 bho at around 3800 rpm.

Both engine options for the Toyota cruiser come with a newly designed six speed manual transmission.
